At the SAO meeting at the University of Lapland, in Rovaniemi, Finland, the Arctic Council focused its discussions on Arctic biodiversity and received updates from all the Council’s subsidiary bodies on their ongoing work.

The Model Arctic Council (MAC) took place at the same time as the Arctic Council meeting at University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland. The MAC was arranged by the University of Lapland. The students eagerly took part in discussions and engaged in debate as where they part of the real Arctic Council.

The Arctic Yearbook 2018  was launched on November 1, 2018 during the Model Arctic Council event that was held at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland. The theme of the yearbook is Arctic Development - in Theory & in Practice.

International Sámi Film Institute (ISFI) offers Sapmifilm, a streaming service, which provides a unique collection of Sámi films.

The seminar is arranged by CIRCLA - Centre for Innovation and Research in Culture and Living in the Arctic, Department of Culture and Global Studies, Aalborg University, on December 12 in Copenhagen.

The Thematic Network webinar: Canadian Perspectives on Leading Change towards Indigenising the Academy: connections within the Arctic Region, will be organized November 13, 2018 at 10:00 local time in Newfoundland (UTC -3.30) / 15:30 Finnish time (UTC +2).

The High North Dialogue Conference, takes place in Bodø, Norway, April 3-4, 2019. The main theme is Business in the Arctic.

The second Arctic Science Ministerial (ASM2) took place in Berlin, Germany on the 25-26 October 2018. The main goal of the ASM2 is to further co-operation in arctic science, by addressing challenges and creating joint action. For full report click here.

Technical University of Denmark (DTU) conducted research that revealed that plankton—the foundation of the food chains in the Arctic Ocean—are affected by concentrations of oil pollution much lower than previously assumed. For full article click here.

Jacob Taarup-Esbensen, from Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and member of the steering committee of the Thematic Network Arctic Sustainable Resources and Social Responsibility, conducted research in the Faroe Islands and attended a Themactic Network meeting in Canada, with the aid from north2north funding.

On 1-2 November 2018, the Arctic Council will gather in Rovaniemi, Finland for the third Senior Arctic Officials’ meeting held during the Chairmanship of Finland (2017-2019).

The University of Lapland hosts The Model Arctic Council (MAC), the event takes place October 29 - November 2. MAC is an academic program in which students from universities throughout the circumpolar north and beyond have the opportunity to get hands on experience with Arctic concerns.

A study published in the renowned scientific journal Nature Climate Change, researchers from the University of Helsinki and the Finnish Environment Institute analysed how projected changes in temperature and snow cover duration will affect the risk for extinction in northern flora, is now available.
