The Logistics Manager have the day-to-day responsibility for the logistics team, operating the station, ensuring a safe environment for guests and personnel as well as the safety of the station and its many facilities while operating at full capacity during the open season (typically April through October with peak season from June to September). Together with the Scientific Leader and the Scientific Coordinator, the Logistic Manager forms the Station Management administrating the station according to the operating agreement with the owner (Greenland Government). The Logistics Manager reports to the deputy head of department at the Department of Ecoscience and to the Zackenberg Scientific Leader regarding the station’s general development and focus.

The logistics group includes management of two full time logisticians and a number of seasonal personnel (e.g. specialists, technicians, cooks). To support the scientific activities, the work is carried out in close collaboration with AU researchers and external partners, among others defence personnel at Daneborg, flight operators etc. Tasks include among much other:

    1. Day-today management of the logistics team in relation to station operations
    2. Operations and capacity plans for each year
    3. Prepare operations budget in collaboration with the daily management team (Zackenberg Scientific Leader and Scientific Coordinator)
    4. Prepare, maintain and implement guidelines and checklists and servicing of the station’s guests in connection with for example:
      1. Maintaining a safe work environment for visiting researchers, employees and guests
      2. Maintaining the safety of the station and all it’s equipment
      3. Opening and closure of the station for the season
      4. Internal and external communication
      5. Use and maintenance of snowmobiles, ATV and other vehicles, satellite phones and weapons
    5. Ensure the supervision of buildings, technical installations and equipment and ensure that they are repaired either by our own staff or, alternatively, from external parties.
    6. Arranging the transport of personnel, equipment and supplies.
    7. Contributing to the development of a green transition of the station's power production, sustainable operations, buildings etc.
    8. Collecting data re. services provided to guests and ensure invoicing with focus on long term sustainability of the station economy.
    9. Financial management, logistics planning, job advertisements, etc.  
    10. Close collaboration with the Zackenberg Scientific Leader on the strategic as well as the general development of the station
    11. Many other obligations needed for keeping an Arctic research station with the capacity of 25 people up and running through late winter/spring, summer and fall.
