This is an exciting development, says the leader of the UArctic Nordic-Barents Regional Office of Undergraduate Studies, Bjoern K. Sagdahl, who has assisted in networking and programme guidance. Close cooperation with Ukhta State Technical University and long-term relations with Murmansk State Pedagogical University and Murmansk State Techniocal University have provided more than 200 students to start in the autumn semester.

As access to scholarships for the Advanced Emphasis part of the programme will be a constant bottle neck for foreign students doing the bachelor programme, Finnmark University College is also advocating the possibility to go to Lapland University, University of Tromsø and Bodø University College for an Advanced Emphasis programme.

The use of UArctic’s Circumpolar Studies courses for an international bachelor degree is gaining ground. Finnmark University College has recently established a bachelor degree programme, making use of the core Circumpolar Studies courses and their already established Advanced Emphasis courses on “Management of Local and Regional Development”. The remaining part of the programme is made up of elective credits.
